The NHL in Canada
The National Hockey League (NHL) is a professional ice hockey league consisting of 31 teams: 24 in the United States and 7 in Canada. The NHL is considered to be the premier professional ice hockey league in the world, and one of the North American major professional sports leagues.
As of 2018, 5 Canadian teams have won the Stanley Cup, more than any other country. Canada has been home to NHL teams since the league’s inaugural season in 1917–18. Canada has the highest concentration of NHL teams per capita.
The NHL in Europe
Europe is home to several successful professional hockey teams, including those in the top tier of the sport. In addition to the NHL teams based in Canada and the United States, there are also teams located in Europe. These teams are based in some of the biggest metropolitan areas in the world, including London, Paris, and Moscow.
The NHL in Asia
The National Hockey League (NHL) is a professional ice hockey league composed of 30 teams, of which 7 are located in Canada and 23 in the United States. The league is headquartered in New York City.
Interestingly, the NHL is the only one of the four major North American professional sports leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL) in which all of its teams are located in either the United States or Canada. In fact, no team from outside North America has ever competed in the NHL.
There has been talk of expanding the league to include a team based in Asia, specifically in China or Japan, but no such plans have been finalized. It remains to be seen whether or not the NHL will eventually expand into Asia.
The NHL in South America
The National Hockey League (NHL) is a professional ice hockey league consisting of 31 teams, 24 of which are based in the United States and 7 in Canada. The NHL is considered to be the premier professional ice hockey league in the world, and one of the major professional sports leagues in North America.
There are currently no NHL teams based in South America, but there have been several attempts to place a team there. In 2009, the Tampa Bay Lightning unsuccessfully attempted to purchase a bankrupt team in Mexico City called the Aztecas. In 2010, an ownership group from Quebec City submitted an application for an NHL expansion team, but their bid was rejected.
It is possible that an NHL team could someday be based in South America, but it seems unlikely at this time.
The NHL in Africa
As of the 2019-2020 season, there are no NHL teams located in Africa.
The NHL in Australia
With the National Hockey League (NHL) suspending operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fans may be wondering if there is any hockey being played Down Under. In fact, there are several metropolitan areas in Australia that are home to NHL teams.
The most notable of these is the Sydney metro area, which is home to the Sydney Ice Dogs of the Australian Hockey League (AHL). The Ice Dogs are affiliated with the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and have been in operation since 2010. Other metro areas with NHL teams include Brisbane (Brisbane Blitz), Perth (Perth Thunder), and Adelaide (Adelaide City Eagles).
The NHL in the Middle East
While there are no NHL teams currently located in the Middle East, there have been talks of expanding the league into the region. In 2017, the NHL held its first-ever game in Qatar, with the Los Angeles Kings taking on the Vancouver Canucks. The game was part of a week-long event called Qatar Hockey Week, which also included games between European teams.
There is no doubt that the popularity of hockey is on the rise in the Middle East. With more and more young people taking up the sport, it is only a matter of time before an NHL team calls the region home.
The NHL in Antarctica
NHL teams are based in many different metropolitan areas across North America, but there is no team in Antarctica. The closest team to Antarctica would be the Tampa Bay Lightning, who play in the city of Tampa, Florida.
The NHL in Space
The National Hockey League, or NHL, is a professional ice hockey league made up of 30 teams from across the United States and Canada. Although the majority of teams are based in major metropolitan areas, there are a few teams located in more rural areas. The NHL is unique among professional sports leagues in that it has a wide variety of team locations.
The majority of NHL teams are located in the United States, with 24 teams based in metropolitan areas across the country. Nine of these teams are located in the northeastern states, seven in the Midwest, six on the west coast, and two in the southeast. The only Canadian team in the NHL is located in Ottawa, Ontario.
There are several reasons why the NHL has such a diverse range of team locations. One reason is that ice hockey is a popular sport in both the United States and Canada. Another reason is that many of the original NHL teams were founded in smaller cities and towns, and they have remained there even as their metropolitan areas have grown.
The NHL is an important part of many communities across North America, and it provides entertainment for millions of fans every year.
